• What is meant by Maritime insurance and tailor-made packaging?

  When taking out transport insurance, a smart policyholder will opt for “all risks” coverage under the “Antwerp Terms Policy” since the insurers themselves then have to prove that the insured may have committed a serious mistake.

  Nevertheless, the insured should not lose sight of a few points (see www.TPL.BE) in this specification we limit ourselves to two concepts:

  • (i)    “inherent vice”
  • (ii)    “weak/non-seaworthy packaging”

  Inherent vice

  • The main exclusions of this insurance are war risks and fault of the insured. Leakage, weight loss, ordinary wear and tear, unsuitable packaging and inherent defects are often misunderstood.
  • Own defect concerns a hidden shortcoming of the goods that cause or contribute to a decrease in value, damage, this often applies to goods that are sensitive to temperature differences and humidity.
  • That’s why Readybox offers VCI, this corrosion prevention has been used for more than 20 years in the USA, we represent ARMOR® VCI here in various versions, to meet the problem outlined above.
  • Goods that are protected by VCI film/paper according to our instructions are optimally protected against rust during the voyage. With our  SEI-4C type packing we provide written guarantee for 1 year against corrosion protection.

  Weak/unseaworthy packaging

  • Unpackaged or unprotected parts  areclearly  not protected against rust, oxidation, moisture damage or discolouration, and are excluded from insurance.
  • This means that all moisture-sensitive goods such as switchboards, control units, electronic circuits, machines with electronic power supply, must be packed seaworthy in boxes with the techniques described in the French quality manual SEI (Syndicat des Emballeurs Internationaux) being type 4C or 4C –a18. • What is a VCI film or foil?

  You can contact  Readybox for a VCI protection film.

  This prevents corrosion and thus acts as a corrosion-resistant packaging. It is mistaken as a kind of cover paper.

  The VCI protection foil must be closed windtight.

  The VCI protection process in 3 steps.

  • The active particles spread in the closed package
  • These invisible particles attach themselves to the metal
  • A monomolecular VCI film is formed on the surface of the metal. The metal is safe and protected.

• What are the methods of corrosion prevention?

  First of all, we need to know what the cause or connection of rust or corrosion is.

  Corrosion is the reaction of a metallic raw material with its environment causing a measurable change in the raw material.

  Method of permanent corrosion prevention:

  A sustainable method of permanent rust prevention consists of protective layers, such as Lacquer and Galvanic layers.

  Method of temporary corrosion prevention:

  • Removable protective layers, oil is the best example here;
  • Desiccant method;
  • VCI Method;
  • Climate packaging;
  • Aluminum connecting foil prevents the flow of moist air;
  • Desiccant binds the residual humidity in the packaging.

  The different forms of corrosion can be divided into three

  Chemical Corrosion

  Direct reaction between metal and an engaging medium (eg metal in hot gases)

  Electrochemical Corrosion

  Electrochemical corrosion is a reaction of metal in contact with an electrically conductive liquid (Electrolyte).

  Diffusion phenomena at the surface of metal.

• What are the characteristics of the wooden boxes for transportation?

  Technical features of the Readybox wooden transport boxes:

  • A folding box consists of 3 parts, where necessary these are heat treated and therefore no fumigation is required:
  • The TOP is a 6 / 9 mm clear birch plywood reinforced on the inside with slats of 50 x 50 mm.
  • The housing is made of 6/9 mm clear birch plywood.
